18.6 km 4h35

Directions :

0.00 – From Place de la Mairie, take Rue Gramond, cross the small Place d’Armes and go opposite and slightly right onto Rue des Clouyères which quickly becomes a very rough tree-lined path (avoid during rainy weather ; instead take, to the left of Place d‘Armes, Rue de la Croix Fresnay as far as the D92 where you head right for 700m before turning right to get to the village of La Vallerie) which, after 600m, comes to an intersection in the village of La Vallerie (lovely old houses, partly renovated). After 150m to the right, head left onto a path which, after about 300m, comes to a gravelled country road, which you follow for approx. 1.5km as far as...

0h40 2.6 - ... the area of Theuré. Continue right on a tarmac road for 300m as far as the area of Le Pont Gomery. Turn left and continue straight ahead after having ignored – to your right – the intersection with the D175. Pass through several areas like Le Chemin, La Rigomais, until, just after a lovely avenue of trees, you find a T-junction in the area of Moulin du Pont (5.2km). Turn right to cross the bridge over the Couesnon and go immediately left, on an uphill road (named Rue de Roquet as you reach the town) into the town of...

1h35 6.3 - ... Romazy. Continue straight ahead leaving the church and the war-memorial to your left. You get back onto the GR®39. Go left onto Rue Thébault then after a few dozen metres, take a right onto Rue de la Grande Fontaine. After 250m, at the far end of the Grande Fontaine quarter, go down left in order to fork right near the settling ponds (6.8km) onto a walking path which becomes a treelined path after 300m.

Just after, watch your step on the steep slope. This pleasant path – which can be more difficult in rainy weather – mostly follows the edge of a wood and is sometimes near to the river Couesnon. It comes out after about 2km onto a sloping farm track, which you take to the right – after taking a look towards the small town of Rimou – in order to get to the intersection with the D18..

2h35 09.2 - ... at the area of La Salle. Bear left and carefully cross the D-road to head onto a footpath which is 100m away on the right, which leads to the D12 about 600m further on. Continue on the GR®39 towards the right (careful of the boggy area which can be avoided, if needed, by taking the D12 immediately to the right along a tarmac road which reaches the GR® a bit further away) to reach, after a little bridge, a road which you carry on along to the right. Keep left to leave the farm of La Papillonnais to your right. At the top of the slope, near a cross, after 500m, pass to the left alongside a farm. 100m further, fork right onto a farm rack, as far as the area of La Chevalais, 700m away. Just after having borne left at the end of the path, turn right as you get to a tarmac road which you follow (don’t take the GR to the left), after the bend to the right straight ahead for about 400m. Take a left a little less than 100m after 2 electricity poles onto a beautiful treelined ‘hollow’ path heading downhill for 200m (careful – can be slippy in wet conditions). After having crossed a stream, keep left to take another treelined ‘hollow’ path going uphill. At the end of it 200m away, facing a beautiful restored house, continue left along a tarmac road.

After about 100m, just before an isolated house, fork left sharply onto a downhill path. 100m further, go up again by the first path on the right and, a little further along pass by a farm on your right. Continue alongside a meadow on your left and after 400m go past a left-hand path so as to continue straight ahead in woodland for about 100m in order to arrive onto a tarmac access road leading to a water treatment works.

Go left on it, then immediately continue to the right on a woodland path along side the stream of Croix Verte, which you cross via a wooden bridge after 200m. Keep left to go up, after a little more than 50m, towards a cul-de-sac which you follow for 200m before forking right onto Rue de la Paix à Tremblay. After 100m, facing Square des Loisirs, turn left into Rue de la Chauvignaie to reach – a little more than 100m further - Rue Émile Ferron and ...

3h20 13.8 - ... The church of St-Martin de Tremblay which is worth a visit. With your back to the church, go back up to the right near the Mairie for 100m along Rue du docteur Bertin (notice his old home on the left) then continue straight ahead for approx 250m along Avenue des Bois before forking left towards the areas of L’Écu and La Lande (signposted). 100m further, go right towards La Lande. About 1km away, after having passed close to the areas of La Soudraie and La Lande, reach ...

3h45 15.1 - ... the area of Les Fossés. Head opposite, between the lovely remains of a farm in need of restoration and a stone-built barn, onto a country road which becomes a very pretty track, getting narrower after several dozen metres. After a bit more than 1.5m, come out onto a road which you take to the right, at 250m pass in front of the entrance of Château de Bonnefontaine and continue straight ahead along a beautiful oak-lined avenue as far as the D155 (17.6km). Carefully cross the D-road and continue straight ahead towards the centre of Antrain via the Rue Lavigne. There is an intersection with Avenue Kléber after 700m. Continue opposite into the small road Ruelle des Fossés and take a right onto Rue de Couesnon to get to...

4h35 18.6 - ... Church of Antrain, the end of this day’s walk.
